Turkey frying again – it’s safe to eat

Every thanksgiving we fry about 30 turkeys for the Thanksgiving day Alcathon. And that’s probably the opposite of what you think it is lol.

In the recovery community, many of us have burned a lot of bridges and ruined a lot of relationships by the time we got clean and/or sober. So during the holidays we’ll hold an Alcathon at an AA clubhouse, which is a 24 hour event with meetings held every other hour. For the Thanksgiving event, we put out a big spread. It’s just to give people a place to go who haven’t been able to repair the relationships with their families yet.

We get the oil somewhere around 300°F and let them go for somewhere around 45 minutes. Lower them in slowly, allow the moisture to cook out as you lower it in. The oil will let you know how slow to go.After enough time has passed, we check the internal temperature of the breast and thigh, as well as breaking the thigh slightly off to see if there’s any pink meat in there. That’s really all there is to it.

What do you think?
