**Actor Jonathan Joss Dies at 59 in Apparent Hate Crime Shooting; Spouse Speaks Out**

Jonathan Joss, known for his iconic voice role as John Redcorn on *King of the Hill*, has died at the age of 59 following a fatal shooting in Texas on June 1, 2025. Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident, while Joss’s spouse, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has issued a public statement describing the shooting as the culmination of a long campaign of harassment and a hate crime.

In a Facebook post, Kern de Gonzales detailed a harrowing series of events that led up to the tragedy:

=>> “My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done. Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.

=>> When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.”

According to San Antonio Police and eyewitness accounts shared by *TMZ*, the altercation between Joss and a neighbor escalated quickly before the suspect, identified as Sigfredo Alvarez-Cega, opened fire. Alvarez-Cega fled the scene but was later apprehended and charged with murder. His bond has been set at \$200,000. Police have not yet released details about the motive behind the shooting, and the full context remains under investigation.

Jonathan Joss had a prolific career in film, television, and video games. Beginning in the 1990s, he appeared in series like *Walker, Texas Ranger* and *The Wild Thornberrys*, and later in live-action roles in *True Grit* and *Ray Donovan*. He also lent his voice to popular video games including *Cyberpunk 2077*, *Wasteland 3*, and *Days Gone*.

Joss is perhaps best remembered for voicing John Redcorn in *King of the Hill*, joining the cast in Season 2 and continuing through the show’s run until its finale in 2009. He reprised the role for Hulu’s upcoming revival of the series, which is scheduled to premiere on August 4. The extent of his involvement in the new season is currently unknown.

Since the news of his death, fans have taken to social media to mourn Joss’s passing, sharing clips and tributes in celebration of his life and legacy in entertainment.

Jonathan Joss leaves behind a body of work cherished by audiences and a legacy now marked by an unspeakable act of violence, which those closest to him say stemmed from years of targeted hatred.
