Michael Grimm’s Soulful Journey on America’s Got Talent
The YouTube video showcases Michael Grimm’s memorable audition on America’s Got Talent, where the 30-year-old musician from Waveland, Mississippi, captivated the judges with his soulful voice.

Grimm, who typically performs in small restaurants and bars in Las Vegas, shared a poignant backstory. He spoke of a challenging childhood, where his grandmother’s intervention prevented him and his sister from being placed in a home. His primary motivation for appearing on the show was to help his grandparents, who had lost everything in Hurricane Katrina, expressing his hope that America’s Got Talent would provide him with that opportunity.

For his audition, Michael delivered a heartfelt rendition of “You Don’t Know Me.” The judges were visibly impressed. Piers Morgan admitted his initial low expectations were quickly overturned by Michael’s “cool, soulful voice.” Sharon Osbourne requested he remove his hat, while Howie Mandel acknowledged Michael’s significant talent but challenged him to “step it up” in future performances, encouraging him to move beyond just sitting and playing his guitar.

Ultimately, all three judges—Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne, and Piers Morgan—voted “yes,” advancing Michael Grimm to the next round. Following his successful audition, Michael promptly called his grandmother to share the good news. Piers Morgan later reflected on Michael’s performance, describing him as an “ordinary kind of humble guy” who delivered a “brilliant performance.”
